201905 May Activity Calendar

MAY 2019

Sunday, May 5,  9:00 am – 11:00 am   Recreational hike and plant identification walk  Caracara Prairie Preserve gate, 2320 Corkscrew Road, Immokalee, FL 34142. One mile past the gate on the right is the CREW Cypress Dome Trailhead and parking.

Activity Description: Easy to moderate hike of 2.8 miles on unpaved trails in the Collier County rural lands at a Conservation Collier Preserve located off of Corkscrew Road adjacent to CREW Land and Water Trust in northeastern Collier County. While the hike will be at the Caracara Prairie Preserve, hikers will meet at and access the preserve from the CREW Cypress Dome Trailhead. This will be a leisurely hike to enjoy the winter woods, but also to view and identify native plants and seasonally blooming wildflowers. Wildlife is present so we may see that as well; maybe some deer and certainly some larger bird species. There is no water and there are no restrooms onsite (other than a port-a-potties at the Cypress Dome Trailhead), so bring tissue, water and a snack.   The trail is partly shaded, flat and easy to walk but has occasional roots and minor obstacles. Closed-toed sturdy shoes and a hat are a must.   Long pants, long sleeved shirts, insect repellant and sunscreen are recommended. We will meet in the parking area at the CREW Cypress Dome Trailhead at 9:00 am.  Public invited, limit of 10 people, leisure rating.  Please RSVP to Alex  239-777-7705  or email: asulecki12@gmail.com
