Friday, March 2 at 5 pm – Monday, March 5 at 3 pm.  Hike the Florida National Scenic Trail from Oasis Visitor Center on Rte 41 to exit 63 on I-75.  Oasis Visitor center is located at 52105 Tamiami Trail E., Ochopee, FL 34141.   Description:  Backpack the Florida National Scenic Trail 30 miles from the Oasis Visitor Center on Rte 41 to Exit 63 on I-75.  Hikers will camp in two places along the way.  The trail will require wading in places and will be soggy in others.  Hikers should be prepared to wade carefully in certain areas because of holes in limestone and hidden cypress knees.  On Friday, March 2, we will arrange for parking vehicles at the I-75 parking lot for the drive home at the conclusion of the hike.  On Saturday, March 3, we will leave the Oasis visitor center at 9 am.  Hikers should be prepared to carry four liters of water and water filtration and purification gear in addition to their backpack, tent or hammock, sleeping bag and food.  Trekking pole(s) or walking stick recommended for maintaining balance while wading.

Turkey hunters will be using other areas of Big Cypress Preserve this weekend.  We recommend that you wear one item of orange clothing.
